Photography Adventure Tour to Svalbard, Norway, North Pole on an Ice Edge Expedition in April 2026

Day 1 - Sat 11 April 2026

International flight Singapore to Svalbard.

Depart from Singapore Airport to Oslo with Finnair or similar. All night flight.

Day 2 - Sun 12 April 2026

Arrival to Oslo Airport.

At 10.30AM flight from Oslo to Longyearbyen, arrive to Svalbard at 13.25 pick up at Longyearbyen airport and transfer to the hotel in Longyearbyen. Basecamp Hotel our similar.

Day 3 - Mon 13 April 2026

Start the journey to Isfjord Radio. Pick up at 10:00AM

At 10:00 AM, our guide will pick you up from your hotel. You’ll have ample time to discuss the upcoming trip, potential routes, and necessary equipment with your guide.

After the meeting, we will provide you with warm clothing, including overalls and winter boots, before heading to the snowmobiles.

Following a safety briefing and a lesson on how to operate the snowmobiles, you’ll set off into the wilderness towards Kapp Linné and Isfjord Radio. Enjoy an expedition lunch amidst the Arctic silence and the expansive white landscape. Depending on weather and snow conditions, our guide will determine the best route to Isfjord Radio for the day.

In the afternoon, you’ll arrive at Isfjord Radio, our remote boutique hotel and the last frontier before Greenland. Our staff will warmly welcome you to this retreat and serve a delicious Arctic-inspired menu. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also indulge in a warm sauna and take a quick swim in the Arctic Ocean—a true thrill for any Polar adventurer. What a way to end an adventurous day!

Day 4 - Tue 14 April 2026

The day to explore the surroundings of Isfjord Radio

Breakfast is served from 08:00. After a hearty meal, it’s time to venture into the stunning landscape of Spitsbergen. Our guide will choose the day’s route based on the weather and snow conditions. If conditions permit, we’ll head south towards the Fritjof Glacier. If we’re fortunate, we might even catch a glimpse of the King of the Arctic—the polar bear—hunting for seals on the ice.

An expedition lunch will be served in the field, allowing you to savor the beauty of the surroundings. In the afternoon, we’ll return to the radio station, where you’ll have some time to relax before dinner.

Day 5 - Wed 15 April 2026

Return to Longyearbyen.

Breakfast is served from 08:00. After a hearty meal, it’s time to explore the breathtaking landscape of Spitsbergen. Our guide will select the day’s route based on the weather and snow conditions. Lunch will be served in the field, allowing you to enjoy the scenery.

The light on Svalbard is ever-changing, and the landscape transforms with the weather. With snowmobiles, we can cover long distances, traversing tundra and frozen fjords. Enjoy the ride back to Longyearbyen. The hours spent on snowmobiles in the wilderness are a significant part of the entire experience.

We expect to arrive back in Longyearbyen in the afternoon. Night at Basecamp Hotel our similar.

Day 6 - Thu 16 April 2026

Check in on the MV Vikingfjord.

You’ll have time to explore Longyearbyen town before joining the ship. Depending on the hotel check-out times, If needed we will leave the luggage storage facility, which allows us to store your luggage while exploring Longyearbyen.

At approximately 3.45pm, your transfer will pick you up from the hotel and take us to the ship at the Port of Longyearbyen.

Welcome aboard the MV Vikingfjord! Embarkation in Longyearbyen at 16:00 Upon leaving the port, we will say goodbye to civilisation for the next eight days to explore the breathtaking Arctic as it emerges from winter.

During this time of year, our route will be determined by the sea ice. We will either sail north or south depending on the conditions. This expedition offers a chance to encounter the coast of Svalbard as it is rarely seen. We will launch the Zodiacs daily to search for the best landscape and wildlife photography opportunities every day.

Day 7 - Fri 17 April 2026

Isfjord & Prins Karls Forland

In Isfjord in April and Early May, fjord ice from the winter lines the coast. This is a great place to start scouting for polar bears that move from the land to the sea ice during this time. If conditions allow, it is a great place to use the Zodiacs to explore the ice edge and open up close-up photography opportunities of wildlife.

After leaving Isfjord, our plan is to sail north, passing Prins Karls Foreland. As the ice recedes from the winter, this area is home to walrus haul-outs.

Day 8- Sat 18 April 2026

Ice Edge We will be Sealing North, to the North Pole Ice edge, where the ice is breaking on the changing season from Winter to Summer.

Days 9 to 14 - Sun 19 to Fri 24 April 2026

Exploring North West Spitsbergen / Sailing South Encountering Sea Ice and North-West Spitsbergen.

The Northwest coast of Spitsbergen has many highlights and places to photograph, including countless glaciers and snow-covered peaks. We will launch the Zodiacs daily to open up photography opportunities. We may land on the heavily frozen shores on the huge rafts of fjord ice where possible.

If the conditions allow, we will plan to venture up to the edge of the sea ice and spend some time searching for polar bears that use the ice to hunt. The sea ice is a mesmerising photography subject in calm conditions, it can be possible to launch the landing craft to cruise between the ice.

Day 15 - Sat 25 April 2026

Heading South / Disembarkation in Longyearbyen. This day we will be sayling south to reach our disembarkation port.

Day 16 - Sun 26 April 2026

Disembarkation in Longyearbyen before 09:00AM End of Ice Breaker NV Vikingfjord Expedition, transfer to Longyearbyen airport. International flight Svalbard to Singapore.
